Where To Obtain Wedding Planner Certification And Become Established In The Industry

Wedding planner certification is by no means a legal requirement in the way, for example, that it is a legal requirement to have medical certification. You are quite at liberty to set up a wedding planning business with no formal qualifications, and indeed there is no reason why you should not do so. It is experience and a portfolio of successfully planned weddings which is your greatest asset in winning business, not a piece of paper. That, of course, is the problem. You find it hard to get business without experience, and you cannot get experience without business.

There are many organizations which can help you become a certified wedding planner. There is no one central governing body which issues qualifications, and no state based licensing system. It is purely a question of the prestige which any given qualification can afford you, and how you can translate that prestige into business and build up a career. Many of the organizations which offer professional certification also charge an annual fee for membership, which allows you to quote your membership on your business card.

If you are just starting out, it can be a useful sign of credibility if you can display a membership of one of these professional organizations on your website, letterhead and business cards. If you can prove beyond doubt that you have completed a course which is respected throughout the industry, that can count in your favor when it comes to winning your initial clients. Having a recognized qualification can open doors for you, it can even lead to a paid position with another wedding planner while you decide where to spend your future.

These courses are no push over, as you have to pass each module before you gain your certificate. That is exactly how it needs to be if the qualification is to carry any weight. People inquiring into wedding planning need to be assured that the practitioner is of the required standard, and that will not happen by having a qualification which is too easy to obtain. Having said that, wedding planning is not brain surgery, and you are allowed repeated attempts to pass each module, so there really is no reason why anyone of reasonable intelligence should not come through and pass.

Coordinating a wedding is nothing which cannot be done by anyone who has taken the time and trouble to acquire the necessary knowledge. It is the first few attempts which will be the hardest. Once you are in the swing of things, you will realize how much weddings follow a fairly standard pattern. Even though there are always variations imposed by creative participants, the proceedings still follow the same basic progression. You have the advantage of working in a career where the supply of new customers will never dry up. Get some good referrals and your business could take off. This can all happen in time as a result of your wedding planner certification.
